What Is an Escape Room?
An escape room is a live team game where you find clues and solve puzzles to complete a mission before time runs out. You might have to escape a room, recover a file or work out what happened in a story.
How does the game start?
Your game host explains the story and rules, including what you can touch, how to ask for a hint and what to do if you need to leave. Once inside, scan the room together. Dates on a desk, marked objects or an open drawer can give you a place to start.
What if you get stuck?
Say what you found out loud. A symbol on your object might match a clue someone else is holding. Set used clues aside. If you are trying the same code repeatedly, let a teammate take over while you look elsewhere. Ask your host for a hint when the team stops making progress.
Follow the host’s instructions and avoid forcing locks or props. If something does not move easily, check whether it is meant to be part of the game.
What to check before booking
- Ask how many people the room accepts and what group size the venue recommends.
- Check the difficulty, language, and whether there are live actors, darkness or sudden scares.
- Allow time for the briefing and confirm the address, arrival time and cancellation terms.
After the game, compare the connections you made and keep the solutions a surprise for future players. Explore our city guides to find your first game.
